Orthopedic Acupuncture

Treating Pain & Injuries with Acupuncture

Over the past several decades acupuncture has gained substantial recognition and much earned respect for the treatment of pain and sports injuries. In the media it is now common to hear celebrities and professional athletes share their experience of how acupuncture helped them heal form their injuries or an illness. Many insurance companies now integrate acupuncture coverage as part of their Complementary Alternative Medicine care plans.

How Does Acupuncture Relieve Pain?

Over the years western medical science has shown that acupuncture stimulates a variety of biological systems in the muscles, immune, nervous and endocrine systems, and causes the release of the body’s own pain killing endorphins that block pain receptors in the brain. It has also been proven to release anti-inflammatory chemicals, relax tight and injured myofibrils, muscle cells, and improve the circulation of blood to promote faster healing of injured tissue.

Orthopedic Acupuncture for Injuries and Sports Medicine

Sports InjuryOrthopedic acupuncture integrates the fundamental principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with the orthopedic structural and biomechanical assessments used in orthopedic medicine. It is highly effective in the treatment of many conditions including sports and other injuries, repetitive motion injuries, auto accidents, and degenerative conditions. By combining the best of east and west we are able to develop a more accurate and complete diagnosis of the condition as well as identify causative factors and obstacles to removing pain and improving function.

The practitioner of orthopedic acupuncture uses the principles of Chinese medicine to diagnose and treat the stagnation and obstruction of the flow of chi and blood, which can predispose a patient to pain and injury and inhibit the healing process. The addition of orthopedic evaluations and biomechanical testing provides a complementary system of diagnosis in order to obtain a more complete analysis of the patient’s condition. These assessments include joint range of motion, postural evaluation, and individual muscle tests that reveal specific information regarding muscle weakness and shortening, nerve impingement, and postural imbalances that predisposes a person to the development of acute and chronic injuries. Many patients experience a significant reduction in pain and inflammation, increased flexibility, and improved health and performance in a relatively shorter period of time from the techniques of orthopedic acupuncture. It also can greatly reduce the risk of re-injury by addressing the predisposing structural imbalances.

Why Choose Amarkaur for Pain & Injuries

Pain can drag us down, lower our energy, and reduce the quality of our lives. I have studied the various styles of Chinese and Japanese acupuncture, and have integrated these with a new technique called Orthopedic/Sports Medicine Acupuncture for the treatment of pain and injuries. I believe this approach combines the best of “East and West”, and offers the greatest results when it comes to the treatment of pain and injuries. By integrating the bio-mechanics and assessments used in orthopedic medicine I can specifically identify additional causative factors and obstacles to removing pain and improving function. When these techniques are combined with specialized acupuncture techniques patients report significant reduction in their pain, improved haling response, with greater flexibility, range of motion and performance.

The Importance of Preventive Treatment

Preventive treatment can be as important as regular training and exercise in maintaining physical health and performance. Small problems, if ignored, can become large problems that don’t resolve on their own, and lead to significant pain and diminish function. Orthopedic acupuncture is effective at improving general health and reducing the occurrence of acute and chronic illness and injury.

I am an 86 year-old woman.  I fell and broke my back in November, 2014.  After many months of severe pain, pain medication and frustration, my doctor suggested physical therapy.  After three sessions I knew it was not for me – I was in more pain than when I started the program.  Out of desperation, I wanted to try acupuncture – I had nothing to lose.
I was amazed at the relief I got after my first visit with Amarkaur at Soaring Crane clinic.  The second visit made me a believer!  I couldn’t believe how much better I felt – I could actually move and do light housework without too much pain wearing a very heavy, structured brace.  I continued my visits several more time and was able to travel to California for a grandchild’s graduation celebration.
I am now wearing a small fabric back brace and walk my dog 2 miles a day without pain. It has been 8 months, I have a little pain still, but nothing to keep me from daily activities, and I am sure I will have complete recovery thanks to Amarkaur and her treatments.  I would recommend acupuncture in a heartbeat.  Thank you Amarkaur! ~ Georgene K.
I had never had acupuncture before when I sought out the services of Amarkaur at Soaring Crane Acupuncture. I went in because I was experiencing a lot of pain following a bad hamstring strain injury, which was also exacerbating chronic sciatica I have suffered with for over 15 years. I am an avid fitness buff and work out 6 days a week and am used to regular wear and tear aches and pains- but the hamstring injury was keeping me from doing my regular exercise and was distracting me from work due to pain when sitting. Needless to say I was looking for relief and had been told by friends and family that acupuncture may be the answer.
My experience at Soaring Crane Acupuncture was excellent from the first day- Amarkaur was friendly, knowledgeable and thorough- and to my surprise, after my first treatment I not only had a significant reduction in hamstring pain, but almost total relief of the sciatica I had been suffering with for so many years. I knew after the first treatment that I was on the right track towards healing and it peaked my interest as to the other conditions for which it might also be therapeutic. I have only been going to Amarkaur for a few weeks, but I am confident that her treatments have helped expedite the healing process and will be a method to finally gain control over the chronic pain I have lived with and tried to ignore for so long. Thank you so much for providing such effective and comprehensive support!   ~ Courtney F.
